Beginner Drawing Class Outline
What can you expect?
This is a rough guideline of what each class will cover.

Class 1
Introductions and warm ups
Blind Contour Drawing
Continuous Line Drawing
Experiment with Graphite, Conte, Charcoal and Ink
This class will really be about familiarising yourself with the mediums and loosening up your ideas and expectations about how you should draw.
We will also discuss end goals for each student and ideas for your final drawing project at the end of the first 6 weeks.
Class 2
Shading techniques
Value Studies (Gradients from light to dark)
Cross Hatching
Measuring by eye techniques
Visualising negative space
Class 3
Complete half drawings
This is an exercise where you take half of a completed image and finish /copy the other half
Grid a drawing
This is a technique you might have seen in colouring/activity books for kids. It’s a great way to get an accurate drawing especially when proportion is more important.
Face/body Proportions
Class 4
More advanced versions of similar exercises from the last class for those who need it.
Still life drawing from observation
Using photos of your own and adding a grid- I will demonstrate ways to do that both with tech on your phone or tablet or manually using a printed image.
Class 5
We will expand on what we have learned and practice the drawing exercises in various drawing mediums and start thinking about what we might like to do for our final drawing.
Class 6
Choose your final drawing subject (or two if you feel you are getting faster)
Begin the process and planning of the final drawing project(s)
Class 7 and 8 will be focused on developing a finished drawing.

Copy Drawing of your choice either from tablet/phone or from supplied printed reference images.
This class will really be about getting a feel for everyones abilities and assessing what each student wants to get better at or explore in their drawing practice.
We will also discuss end goals for each student and ideas for your final drawing project at the end of the first 6 weeks.
Class 2
Still life drawing Both Natural and man made objects.
Class 3
Drawing hands and faces from life observation as well as photo reference,
Class 4
Advanced Value Studies- These exercise will refine your shading abilities by helping you achieve realistic textures.
Class 5
Using geometric shapes to create visual planes and give your shapes more depth.
Class 6
Creating images using multiple references.
Chose your final drawing (Or drawings if you’re a bit faster)
Decide on what mediums you will use.
Start planning the composition of your final piece and get started.
Class 7
Work on final drawing project
Class 8
Finish final drawing project. (Or work on other practice with guidance
